E finalmente sono stato a Glasgow.
Era Dicembre, ed era buio.
Mi sono riflesso nelle vetrine,
ho seguito le insegne luminose.
Mi sentivo lontano e distratto
prima di sapere di te.
Quella sera d'inverno
Fa freddo a Glasgow a Dicembre,
da questa città sarò lontano per sempre,
anche quando cammino nel centro.
Pochi mesi dopo
ho visto quella foto:
non si vede nessuno,
solo qualche luce su uno sfondo nero.
Ogni inverno fa buio presto,
e ogni inverno si resta a casa.
Ogni inverno le strade deserte,
e ogni inverno l'ombra dei viali.
Fa freddo a Glasgow a Dicembre,
avere la testa altrove
e una tasca pesante.

EVERY WINTER
I have finally been to Glasgow.
It was December and it was dark.
I saw reflections of myself on the shop windows,
I followed the neon signs.
I was feeling distant and absent-minded
before I got to know about you.
On that winter night
you went out when it was already dark,
to get a breath of fresh air and take pictures.
You reached a half-empty square,
only a carousel, a few guys,
and some crows looking for food.
They asked you why were you taking pictures,
they told you to delete them,
they told you they didn't want to be in them.
They chased you, they reached you right before the bridge,
they threw you to the ground, they kicked you and made you apologize.
When you raised from the ground, a confused murmur all around you:
"We did not want to meddle, we thought it was your boyfriend,
we didn't know they were strangers or else we would have stopped them.
But we thought it was just your boyfriend with his friends".
Glasgow gets cold in December,
I will always be far away from this city,
even when I walk in the center.
A few months later
I saw that picture:
I couldn’t see anyone,
just a few lights on a black background.
Every winter it gets dark early,
every winter people stay home
and every winter the streets are empty,
every winter, the shadows in the avenues.
Glasgow gets cold in December,
when my mind is somewhere else
and my pocket is heavy.
